Трек “Cool Summer Rain” стал третьим синглом с их недавнего полноформатника “The Planet In The Universe”, а сами музыканты композицию характеризуют достаточно туманно: “Когда мы выбираем новую реальность для себя, старая реальность разрушается!

Russian musicians continue to shoot world-class art clips for their songs, and after the beautiful and spectacular RabieS clip, we have the debut video work from Kursk progressive band Existentia, which also does not lag behind in terms of material and quality. The track "Cool Summer Rain" became the third single from their recent full-length album "The Planet In The Universe", and the musicians characterize the composition rather vaguely: "When we choose a new reality for ourselves, the old reality is being destroyed! Through fragments of memories from confusion to determination!". It would seem, who would argue, everything is very obvious and natural, but what exactly did the authors mean in this case?

We watch the clip and get into the world of painful visions, gloomy moods and excellent prog metal. And it wasn’t a mistake that I compared the video for "Cool Summer Rain“ with the recent RabieS video - the excellent cinematic frames of this clip resemble a good thriller to the same extent as ”Werewolf", and the plot development is rapid, like a locomotive that is falling off a cliff. The band managed to shoot a very spectacular and intriguing video clip, fit into a certain unspoken code of prog teams, which can be traced in the clips of most progressives, whether it's Dream Theater or Fates Warning, and at the same time remain original and completely avoid some boredom and triviality.

And one of the main secrets of the attractiveness of the video version of "Cool Summer Rain" is its ambiguity. You can understand and interpret what is happening on the screen during the playback of this clip in very different ways, argue, disagree, do not understand anything, but it is almost impossible to deny the simple fact that we are really looking at a very high-quality and interesting video. The video confidently infects the viewer with its specific atmosphere, clearly dictates its own rhythm of perception, and brilliant riffs and thoughtful solos of Existentia complement the video idyll with convincing and clear audio accompaniment. And it turns out a kind of musical and visual rebus with shades of theatrical performance.

If we talk about the shortcomings, there are practically no or even none at all – in the clip everything is perceived very naturally and organically, I would even say, smoothly and at the same time, as if sleepy. As in the most realistic and painful dreams, all the images are woven into the same canvas, and it is almost impossible to isolate any one from the general series and perceive it autonomously, so in this debut Existentia clip everything is very coherent, holistic and interconnected. Perhaps it would be better if the operator paid a little more attention to the rich facial expressions of the band members, but these are the wishes from the series "if ifs and ans were pots and pans” and they do not affect the overall impression in any way.

"You need to go to your goals, no matter how much pain and troubles you have because after the heat and scorching sun there’s always a cool summer rain will! And everyone will get a portion of the long-awaited pleasure from achieving their goal!"- the leader of the band, guitarist Alexander Sidelin, notes in the commentary to the translation of the “Cool Summer Rain" text, and, probably, in these words there is a universal key to understand the current work of the Kursk quintet. We dream, then our dreams change or even turn into a real nightmare, we are depressed, sad, happy and longing, but behind all this series of different and contradictory states, we must not forget who we are and where we are going. There are bad and good times, but there are also things that remain eternal and unchangeable.

And I think that the musicians from Existentia reclaim music along with the traditional love-good -beauty values as the same permanent and unquestionable constants. Their work really stands out noticeably against the background of many modern progressive bands, and at the same time can serve as a standard of modern Russian progressive metal, setting new standards and canons for it. Their meaningful esotericism, musical coherence and illustrative imagery create a certain trinity of ideas, sound and images, and their first official video clip very clearly demonstrates all this by its example. A great start, let's wait and see what will happen next and whether they will be able to surpass themselves or stay at the same impressive level in the future!
